A waxed figure of Aaliyah is coming to Madame Tussauds in Las Vegas on August 22, and there’s a contest that will allow several winners to attend the launch party.
The wax museum — who already has figures of people like Drake, Shaquille O’Neal and Samuel L. Jackson at the Vegas location — made the announcement about Aaliyah on Monday.
“We are proud to announce that Aaliyah will be the next iconic star immortalized in wax at Madame Tussauds Las Vegas!” someone from the museum wrote.
For those interested in attending the launch party, they can enter the contest by downloading an Aaliyah app and sharing their best impression of the late singer through a photo or video. The post has to be shared on the app, as well as Instagram, and the hashtag “#ShowUsYourAaliyah” must be entered as well.
The app was created by Aaliyah’s brother Rashad Haughton, and contestants can enter more than once.
They also have to be at least 21 years old to enter, and the contest will end on August 11, 2019, at 11 p.m. PDT. Plus, there will be 10 winners selected, and all of them will be notified on August 12.
The Aaliyah figure comes after her fans created a campaign to have a wax figure created for the singer, so a lot of people are definitely thrilled.
“Beyond happy and excited for this,” someone wrote on Madame Tussauds’ Instagram page.
And while others posted similar words, there were many who were concerned about the museum botching Aaliyah’s cast.
“Y’all better not mess this up!… but thanks for FINALLY having her!” one person wrote.
“KING LIYAH!!!! Y’all better come through! She’s a legend!” wrote another.
Aaliyah was killed in a plane crash on August 25, 2001, after filming the video to her song “Rock the Boat” in the Bahamas. She was 22 years old.
