Shaquille O’Neal Raises $2 Million In Charity By Selling Animated NFTs of Himself

Shaquille O’Neal is jumping on the new NFT bandwagon to do good deeds.

The NBA legend recently partnered with The Notables to create unique images of himself and sell them. The proceeds from the NFT images of O’Neal will all go to his charity organization The Shaquille O’Neal Foundation. The Notables is a platform designed to both create and sell NFT or non-fungible tokens.

According to Forbes, NFTs are “a digital asset that represents real-world objects like art, music, in-game items and videos. They are bought and sold online, frequently with cryptocurrency, and they are generally encoded with the same underlying software as many cryptos.”

The Notables website has over 10,000 animated images of the former Lakers players, all of which, according to The Notables Instagram page, were sold out by Dec. 27. Some pictures showed O’Neal smiling and wearing a Santa Claus costume or other Christmas attire. In other photos, O’Neal is wearing different team jerseys from his playing days. Overall, they raised $2 million in just five days, TMZ reports.

The Shaquille O’Neal Foundation is created for children who are in need of assistance so that they may be given a chance at a better future. He has other programs like “Shaq-To-School” and “Shaq-A-Claus” that are also used to collect funds, school supplies, or Christmas items for the “underserved” children.

The 49-year-old promoted the NFT collection on his Instagram account on Dec. 22 which was a 10-second clip of one of the NFTs. The post displayed a smiling animated O’Neal wearing a red sweater, a red and white Christmas hat, and flashing Christmas lights wrapped around him.

Under the Dec. 22 upload, he wrote, “Ho ho ho! We are now live with the SHAQ GIVES BACK charity NFT collection on @notables.co 🎄🎁 In the spirit of the holidays, all proceeds from the sale, and all royalties FOREVER will be going to the @shaqfoundation, raising money for underprivileged youth across the country. Thank you for helping us impact the lives of countless kids in need.”

On their Instagram page, The Notables announced that people who might have missed the first sale can still have an opportunity to get a SHAQ GIVES BACK NFT by purchasing on OpenSea, which is the first and largest marketplace for NFTs.
