Meagan Good is getting serious about her safety.
The star of Amazon’s “Harlem” is currently on a press run for her latest series and recently made an appearance on Charlamagne Tha God’s newest series “Tha God’s Honest Truth,” with the topic of home invasions coming up. Much to host Charlamagne’s surprise, the California native admitted that she’d feel “more comfortable” if she owned a firearm.
“You know, what’s crazy is for a long time, I felt like I didn’t. But now, with everything that’s going on, I would feel more comfortable with a gun,” she explained to host Charlamagne and viewers.
She continued, “The reason before my thought was like if something did happen to me, would I have the time to pull out a gun to defend myself?” The “Think Like a Man” star expressed that she hopes she’d never actually have to fire the weapon in her residence. “I don’t want to kill anybody or hurt anybody, but I will defend myself,” she added.
When asked how her husband, Pastor DeVon Franklin, felt about her recent epiphany, the “Waist Deep” star revealed she hasn’t spoken to him about it just yet.
Good’s comments come on the heels of several instances of home invasions in the Los Angeles area where many of Hollywood’s rich, famous and influential reside — with the most recent being the fatal shooting of music executive Clarence Avant’s wife Jacqueline Avant. The philanthropist was shot and killed inside of the couple’s Beverly Hills home Wednesday morning on Dec. 1. She was 81 years old.
Aariel Maynor of Los Angeles has since been charged with one count each of murder, attempted murder and felon with a firearm as well as two counts of residential burglary with a person present, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The suspect had also shot at a security guard on the premises, but they were not injured, the outlet reported. Maynor reportedly used an assault-long barrel pistol during the crimes, hence the nature of his charges.
Authorities found Maynor in the 6000 block of Graciosa Drive in the backyard of another home where another shooting had been reported suffering from a gunshot wound to his foot.
Currently, Good is starring in “Harlem” alongside “Empire” actress Grace Byers and “P-Valley” actor Tyler Lepley.
