The “Love Life” actress played the “original Aunt Viv,” as Smith and show fans refer to her, in the hit ’90s sitcom, but was recast after leaving the series in 1993 over disagreements with the “Independence Day” star. Rumors of her being hard to work with followed her departure, with those rumors significantly stalling her career. Smith apologized to her for his temperament as a budding star during their reunion conversation and they have since put their drama behind them.
Hubert recently told People that she and Smith have maintained their relationship since reconciling in 2020. “We text each other back and forth all the time. As a matter of fact, we have a very good relationship. I meant it with all my heart when I hugged him, because I saw that little boy, that little 21-year-old boy. Had we had an opportunity to talk back then, I think this would have never happened.”
