‘OMGGG’: Will Smith Reveals Why Beyoncé Called Him After ‘King Richard’ Screening

A new Beyoncé song highlights the trailer for the new Will Smith film “King Richard” about Venus and Serena Williams.

The film is the true story of tennis champions Venus Williams, Serena Williams and their coach father, Richard Williams, played by Smith. The tennis champs are played by Demi Singleton as Serena and Saniyya Sidney as Venus.

Venus and Serena produced the biopic with their sister, Isha Price.

Beyoncé fans can also hear a piece of her new song “Be Alive” during the trailer. Smith said that the artist was inspired to write the song after viewing “King Richard.”

“The marriage of a movie and a song is a kind of magic that’s unmatched in entertainment,” he said. “I was so happy when Beyoncé called.”

Serena posted the trailer on Twitter, with a caption reading,”I’m SO excited for you to watch the new trailer for #KingRichard starring Will Smith and featuring the song “Be Alive” by @Beyonce. It’s in theaters and streaming exclusively on @HBOMax November 19.”

Richard Williams was essential to his daughters’ success, and due to his dedication and their immense talent, Venus and Serena went on to become four-time Olympic gold medalists. They have also won more than 120 singles titles in tennis and have collectively won at least $175 million in prize money. The sisters also dominated tennis on the doubles court and have won 14 Grand Slams together.

The inspirational story about the dad from Compton who coached two daughters into Olympic champions also has Twitter users emotional after watching the trailer. Fans are excited about the film and responded to the Twitter post.

“I can’t wait!!!!” said one fan. Another said, “Beyoncé sanging like rent due.” A Beyoncé fan was excited to hear a new song from the Grammy-winning artist and wrote, “OMGGG “BE ALIVE” FEATURED IN THE TRAILER!!!!!!!”

One fan thought Smith was so good that he should win an Oscar. “Omgosh man!!! Moments like these are why I love this art & business so much!! Can’t wait to be part of a powerful project like this!! Also, #WillSmith is finally getting his overdue #Oscar!!”

Smith received rave reviews after the movie was viewed at The Telluride Film Festival in September, and “King Richard” is already creating Oscar buzz for Smith’s portrayal of Mr. Williams as well as Beyoncé and DIXON for original song. The film also stars Aunjanue Ellis, Tony Goldwyn and Dylan McDermott.

“King Richard” will debut on HBO Max and in movie theaters on Nov. 19.
