Floyd Mayweather recently announced that he would step out of retirement to participate in a few exhibition matches here and there. Rapper 50 Cent caught wind and challenged the former athlete to a duel — to which Mayweather gladly accepted.
To solidify his agreement, Mayweather shared a poster on his Instagram page on Wednesday, Feb. 3, promoting a Mayweather versus 50 Cent fight.
Aside from two and potentially even three exhibitions already set for the year, Mayweather said that he’d be willing to fight Fif despite the rapper claiming that it wouldn’t be a fair fight due to the weight class difference.
“I also heard that 50 cent would fight me but claims I’m too small. If he wants to lace up at the end of the year, we can do an exhibition then,” the former boxer wrote. He added, “I don’t care about weight class with any of these guys. The Paul brothers will make great money with the events, but with 50 cent It has to be ‘Winner Take All.'”
In true 50 Cent fashion, the Queens rapper took to his social media accounts, where he reneged on his offer and attacked his former friend’s literacy in the process. “The fight is off because Floyd cant read 2 paragraphs of my New York Times bestseller (Hustle Harder Hustle Smarter) on IG live,” the rapper wrote.
The “Get Rich or Die Trying” rapper wasn’t the only one with jokes. Some fans praised the actor for being a “marketing genius,” seeing as all the attention surrounding the proposed fight has given him an opportunity to promote his new book.
Meanwhile, others clowned the rapper for withdrawing from fight, including one Instagram user who wrote, “@50cent u talk the talk but never walk the walk.” They added, “You scared Floyd would knock you out clean! Step up and take the fight you were amateur fighter before!”
“Nah the fight is off cuz u said u would fight him, he said ok but the money is winner take all and u know he will beat u so now u ducking him and gonna troll him instead cuz it’s only thing u can do,” a second person expressed.
