In light of his recent controversies, Morgan Wallen fans are still staunchly supporting their favorite country star.
The singer faced condemnation from the music industry after video was posted on TMZ of him hurling the N-word at a friend after a rowdy night out last weekend. The 27-year-old released an apology that did not move industry gatekeepers, as Wallen’s music was immediately pulled from airwaves and his record label placed him on “indefinite suspension.”
Despite the media scrubbing all evidence of Wallen from its outlets, it appears the general outrage over his actions has increased interest in the artist, and his music’s selling power tells the story.
Wallen’s songs took up six positions on the US iTunes Top 10 sales chart as of Thursday morning.
The song “More Than My Hometown” presently holds #1 on the all-genre chart, with “Wasted On You” at #2. His songs “Whiskey Glasses,” “7 Summers,” and “Sand In My Boots,” are at spots four through six, respectively, and “Chasin’ You” rounds out at #8.
Wallen’s album is also doing well on the charts with the explicit version of “Dangerous: The Double Album” at #1, “If I Know Me” at #2, and the clean version of “Dangerous” at #3.
“7 Summers,” “Sand in My Boots,” “More Than My Hometown” “Wasted on You” are also in the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100, but it is expected that they will fall on the charts in the following week as a result of removed radio and streaming data that determines their position on the charts.
Prior to the reveal of Warren’s video, he was lauded for his steady music sales and explosive popularity, and his “Dangerous: The Double Album” was about to have a fourth week at the top of the album charts, setting a record for consecutive weeks at No. 1 that has not been achieved by a country artist since Garth Brooks in the late ’90s, according to Variety.
However, the promotion has currently come to a full stop, and while Wallen’s album may persist in obtaining high streaming numbers, he won’t have the added support of TV appearances or radio play as iHeartMedia has removed his music from playlists, and CMT has said that they are removing all traces of Wallen from their platform as well.
