Monica just may be the living embodiment of the phrase “40 is the new 20.”
The “Angel of Mine” singer celebrated her 40th birthday on Oct. 24, and did a bit of showing out on the ‘Gram leading up to that big day as well as another, the release of her upcoming album “Trenches.”
In the stream of steamy images, the “Love All Over Me” singer serves body in a pool while wearing a one-piece BFYNE bathing suit and matching head scarf. She strikes a variety of poses in the photos, even giving fans a little peek at her Moni-cakes in a shot from behind.
“What one takes for granted, one may lose…. #40 #TRENCHES The Album 11-20,” she wrote, referring to her age, and the title and release date of her upcoming ninth studio album in her hashtags.
The upcoming album’s title is meant to be a reflection of the battles that she’s fought and overcome throughout her life, “whether it be emotionally, sometimes physically.”
“I’m always in the trenches to some capacity or the other, whether it be emotionally, sometimes physically — wherever my family is, that’s where I go,” she told True Exclusives of her album title inspiration. “I’ve never shied away from the fact of where I’m from. I’m still in the state of Georgia. I’m still in Atlanta, so I’m always around the people that I love the most and sometimes that means that I’m a part of the trenches.”
She continued, “I’m in the trenches of this music [industry]. I’m working hard, I’m writing a lot, I’m basically doing everything you can imagine because now I’m independently owned. And there are no trenches like the trenches of being the one that has to do everything…The trenches, we always in ’em.”
After flipping through the swimsuit images, fans expressed that they couldn’t see any signs of aging or struggling in the trenches, and complimented her on her youthful and vibrant appearance.
“Who the hell 40????” wondered a confused commenter.
“Oh sista u been coming through with the looks 😍,” praised a second fan.
“40 where though?!” asked a third.
“Yesssssss you on fire sis. You look blessed 😘,” a fourth noted.
“Aunty ain’t playing fair 😍,” pointed out a fifth.
“Trenches” marks Monica’s first album release in five years, following 2015’s “Code Red.”
