As a public figure, the presidential candidate you align yourself with could have you on your fan’s good side, or leave fans giving you the side-eye. Yesterday, 50 Cent may have rubbed his supporters the wrong way after he seemingly endorsed president Donald J. Trump for the upcoming general election. The rapper also pushed for his followers to vote for the Republican candidate.
On Monday, Oct. 19, the “Get Rich or Die Trying” rapper took to his Instagram to express his frustrations over Democratic candidate Joe Biden‘s proposed tax plan. “👀WHAT THE F–K! (VOTE ForTRUMP) IM OUT, 🏃♂️💨FUCK NEW YORK The KNICKS never win anyway,” the rapper wrote alongside a screenshot of the former vice president’s new bill. He added, “🤷🏽♂️I don’t care Trump doesn’t like black people 62% are you out of ya fucking mind. 😤.” For context, Biden’s plan would only raise tax rates for corporations and those who make $400,000 or more per year. As a resident of New York City, 50 Cent could be hit with a 62 percent tax rate increase under the plan, experts said on Monday, according to CNBC.
Still, this is a different tune for the 45 year old who has publicly dissed Trump in the past. A few months before, the actor called out the president over his careless response to the COVID-19 pandemic in an Instagram post, saying, “You wanted a reality show host as president. Well now you’re on Survivor.”
There were plenty of MAGA supporters cheering on the rapper in the comments section for his support of their favored president. Trump’s son Eric Trump tweeted a picture of 50 Cent posing alongside rapper Ice Cube, another rapper who recently collaborated with the Trump administration. “Two great, courageous, Americans!” Eric captioned the post. Conservative Fox Nation host Tomi Lahren commented underneath the Instagram post, “Welcome to the Trump Train!” She later added, “Amen !!!!”
However, not all were amused by 50 Cent’s move. Critics slammed the “Window Shopper” rapper over his ignorance of Biden’s bill, including one user who wrote, “IF YOU MAKE OVER $400,000/year!!!! If you don’t you will be receiving a tax CUT!!! This the dumbest shit 50 ever posted!!!!” They added, “🤦🏽♀️ Ya’ll don’t make that much so have several seats! And vote for Biden!!!! Not a racist!” Another person commented, “For you, maybe Fif. But they not changing for the rest of us with normal salaries so beat it with this nonsense lol.”
Shortly after the commotion and even a mention on Fox News for his comment, 50 Cent posted on his Instagram again with the caption, “I just remembered i’m bankrupt, so i’m looking for a gracious loan can anyone help a brother out. LOL.”
