“Real Housewives of Atlanta” star Kandi Burruss opens up about Nene Leakes, their past drama, and how the former reality star walked past her in a restaurant following their heated season 12 reunion of the hit reality show.
On Sept. 11, Kandi, who is seen wearing a red shirt and rocking her purple highlights, told E! News “Close Up” that the reason behind the drama was because they are filming a show that involves “real people.” She said at the 0:12 mark, “it’s a reality show, so you are dealing with real people, real emotions. At the time it was a very heated discussion and a lot of walking off.”
The Xscape singer also said that following the reunion she and Nene crossed paths at a restaurant but Nene didn’t recognize her and walked by. “I saw her at a restaurant, I walked right past her, she did not recognize me because I had the mask and I had just gotten braids so I guess I wasn’t looking like myself. But I said hello and she was talking to somebody else, so I guess she didn’t realize it was me and kept walking, but because we were in a gray space I was just like all right, cool.”
The singer/songwriter said in a July 19 interview with Hollywood Life that although she and Nene have had their differences in the past she wanted the OG housewife to come back for the upcoming season of “RHOA.”
“Listen, she and I, we’re like oil and water sometimes, but I definitely would love for her to be back. I definitely feel like she is a major part of this show. I feel like it would suck if she decided not to come back. I feel like why wouldn’t she come back, but I feel like ultimately that is up to her, so we’ll see. … I have not talked to Nene either, and I do not know what her plans are, so I don’t know and honestly …”
Nene has since deactivated her Instagram page following cryptic posts and rumors that she would not be returning to the hit Bravo show. Nene’s future with “RHOA” was unknown after she stormed out of part 2 of the season 12 reunion and didn’t return for the finale. She then expressed via social media that she felt like she was being attacked by the cast.
