The popular social media hit-for-hit competition Verzuz is about to get very soulful as the empresses of soul music Patti LaBelle and Gladys Knight take the main stage in the upcoming battle.
The announcement was made on the official VerzuzTV Instagram page on Tuesday, Sept. 9. The livestream is set to take place on Sunday, Sept. 13 at 8 PM. “The Master Class we’ve ALL been waiting for! @MsGladysKnight vs. @MsPattiLaBelle🔥 Live from The Fillmore in Philly this Sunday at 5 PM PT/8 PM ET. The ultimate #Verzuz!” the caption for the big event read. “Leave ya church clothes on all Sunday and pull up to the affair of all affairs. Y’all gotta get dressed up in ya Sunday’s best for this one.”
LaBelle and Knight, along with Dionne Warwick, previously collaborated on the hit “Sisters in the Name of Love.”
Fans are seemingly already prepping themselves for Sunday’s event, including one fan who commented underneath the announcement post, “Now I have to make mama an Instagram account 😂🤣 .” While another person jokingly wrote, “I hope they got the nieces and nephews helping them with the audio!!” A third fan commented, “I can’t even sleep. I’ma just stay up til Sunday and work on my background vocals.”
Some fans are so excited that they’ve already put in their request for other music legends to go head to head, including one fan who wrote, “this is going to be fire!!! Next they need Stephanie Mills and Anita Baker 🔥.” Another user chimed in, “Omg like we can’t call this one a verzuz. This should just be called a music session!! Gladys and Patti ooooohhhh lawd this is going to be good.”
Another battle that’s reportedly in the works is one between on-and-off again foes 50 Cent and T.I. On Thursday, Sept. 7, the two men spent their evening taking shots at each other on Instagram after the idea of a possible battle came up. According to a report from Page Six, the two artists have been pondering on the idea of this Instagram match for a while, but things went left after T.I. demanded that 50 agree to a time earlier in the evening.
The two trolled each other on social media, and at one point the internet’s favorite bully told the Atlanta rapper, “Bro ya beard is not quite connecting like your music. You do know i did 10,000,000 on the second album too. 👀😆🥱you just make sure you’re at work on time. OK.”
It’s uncertain whether the two will ever see a battle stage, but they are reportedly set to work together on an upcoming show produced by the Queens rapper titled “Twenty Four Seven.” The show reportedly is based on former NYPD detective Derrick Parker, who investigated some of hip-hop’s most significant crimes; that includes the murders of The Notorious B.I.G. and Jam Master Jay.
