Ciara is honoring “black excellence” in her latest music video for her new song “Rooted.” The 34-year-old singer and songwriter dropped the visuals for the track at 12 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 13, which also shows the model baring her old baby bump while dancing to the beat.
Aside from her large belly, the music video contains additional vocals from Ester Dean and footage of Black Lives Matter protesters, as well as a visual of a woman wearing a Breonna Taylor shirt. Ciara also sings in the second verse: “All my songs come with melanin/ Got the heart, got the soul like Harriett/ A queen since she born, that was evident/ That’s evidence, of black excellence,” as photos of Black families and dancers fills the entire screen.
The mother of three gave birth to her bundle of joy Win Harrison Wilson almost three weeks ago, but Ciara admitted in a recent Instagram post that she filmed the music video just days before giving birth to her baby boy. Taking to social media with a clip of her twerking in a black short-sleeved crop top and biker shorts, Ciara wrote in her caption: “ATL bred I’m #Rooted. Shot this video 2 days before delivery, Covid style! Out now! 💃🏽.”
Although the Grammy Award winner was born in Austin, Texas, she was raised in Atlanta, where she met music producer Jazzy Pha, who helped pave her way to stardom. People instantly gravitated toward the clip and explained that they were impressed that Ciara filmed the footage, being that she was nine months pregnant.
One user asked underneath the video, “Right before delivery though????? Daaang Ci😜,” while somebody else mentioned, “That baby gonna be overly active🤣.” Another person said, “Wow! This song is phenomenal. Tears and chills. You just gave birth to an amazing legacy with your child and with this song,” followed by someone else who said, “That baby like tf going on😂.”
Ciara’s project seemed to be a family affair, considering her 6-year-old son Future Zahir Wilburn and her 3-year-old daughter Sienna Princess Wilson also made a cameo appearance in the music video. Ciara and her husband Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson are the parents to their bundle of joy and Sienna. The couple also raise little Future, whom she shares with her ex-fiancé, rapper Future.
