‘They’re Adjusting’: Gizelle Bryant Explains Her Daughters’ Reaction to Her Getting Back with Her Ex-Husband, Their Father Jamal Bryant

The Real Housewives of Potomac made its season 5 debut, and there were a lot of changes, including Gizelle Bryant, who revealed that she reconciled with her ex-husband, pastor Jamal H. Bryant, after the two parted ways 12 years ago.

While the reality star may be optimistic about her reunion, viewers of the Sunday, Aug. 2, episode saw a less enthusiastic response from Bryant’s three teenage daughters Angel, Adore, and Grace.

Bryant seemingly defended her daughters’ reaction during an interview on “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen,” following the show’s premiere. “Well, I mean, my kids always are going to give me a hard time.” She added, “They do just want what’s best for me. They’re very protective of me. So they’re here for their parents.” Gizelle and Jamal were married from 2002 to 2009 but famously split after Jamal cheated on her during their marriage.

The mother of three spoke further on the topic during “The Daily Dish” podcast. “They’re adjusting. At first, they were weirded out, confused. But now I think that they are used to it, and they’re fine. At the end of the day, they just want me to be happy. And they’re very protective of me, which makes me happy that they are really mama’s girls and they just want to make sure that I’m happy. So they see that I am,” the star explained. She added, “So I think they’re OK.”

The reality star even joked about her daughters telling their side of the story after a fan requested the girls to appear in the confessionals during the show’s episodes.

While the girls continue to “adjust,” Bryant revealed that they would remain with her in Maryland while Jamal lives in Atlanta, with the former couple resolved for now at least not to live together. “No [plans to move in together] only because my kids are now in high school. I have three kids in high school. And I don’t want to change that situation,” Bryant explained. “High school is kind of important. So, no. But we do see each other a lot. And, you know, let’s be clear. At the end of the day, Gizelle kind of likes her freedom and her independence. I like to see you when I want to see you. And when I don’t want to see you, I don’t want to see you. So it’s perfect.”
