Ashanti is celebrating the success of her sophomore album, which dropped 17 years ago.
The 39-year-old songstress recently left fans reminiscing about the good ole days after she shared a series of photos and video shoots taken for her “Chapter II” album in 2003. She took to Instagram on Wednesday July 1 and wrote, “Chapter II ❤️ #17years.”
Ashanti also shared a clip of herself on BET’s former music video show “106 & Park” and recalled how she used to always say “bananas.”
“Free and AJ #106&Park “bananas”🍌 if you knew me… u knew that was my favorite word #17years,” she added.
With a photo of her official “Chapter II” album cover and a series of video slides that played her most popular songs, the R&B crooner thanked all of her fans for their support and shouted out the producers and musicians who helped with her project.
“Thank you guys so much for all of the love and continued support. This was a scary yet fun time for me,” Ashanti wrote.”I was still considered a new artist and had to live up to the success of my debut album “Ashanti”. So humbled to have my 2nd album go #1 as a new artist.”
“Thank you to Murder Inc, all the amazing producers, Team Ashanti, late nights in the studio in Miami, and my horrible hand writing that only I can understand,” she continued. “S/o to @lorenridinger , JR & Amber bean lol we practically lived with you guys in Miami making this album.”
Instagram followers swarmed Ashanti’s post with congratulatory messages on her success. One fan commented, “Congrats! You worked hard on this you are amazing I love your music you are my favorite artist 👏🏽♥️no words can describe your beautiful music Ashanti you made a great history♥️.”
Another one wrote, “Album is full of memories & good vibes congrats ma such nostalgia,” while someone else commented, “You are my favorite.. ask anybody your all I use to talk about growing up !!!! We love you ASHANTI !!!!”
Ashanti released the Murder Inc./Def Jam album in July 2003.
Her hit single “Rock Wit U” has pierced the top-5 of Billboard’s Hot 100 and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks charts. “Rock Wit U” is also one of the most-played videos on MTV and BET, according to Billboard.
Other popular songs on the album include: “Break Up 2 Make Up,” “Rain on Me,” “I Found Lovin’,” “Feel So Good” and “Sweet Baby.”
