‘Somebody Check on Nikki’: Masika Kalysha Has Fans Shook After She Posts Photos with Ex Mally Mall

Every artist knows that the key to creating a smash hit stems from the talent, writers, and record producers behind the scenes. Masika Kalysha recently suggested that she’s ready to release a new record after she posted a thread of photos to Instagram on Friday, May 22, that seemingly showed her in a studio with her ex-boyfriend and music producer Mally Mall.

Draped in a black two-piece pants set, the former “Love and Hip Hop Hollywood” cast member sat on a black desk in the first photo. Mall stood beside the singer-songwriter wearing a Versace robe and a pair of sunglasses. Sporting long wavy hair and no makeup, Kalysha appeared to be listening to a track.

In her caption, Kalysha hinted that Mall was helping her create an upcoming song. “@mallymall ‘”So Sika what you want this song to be about?’” Me: “’Drug dealers and rich n-ggas,'” she wrote.

Over 20,000 fans gravitated to the photo, with many fans expressing that they were surprised to see Kalysha cooking up a project with her ex-boyfriend.

“Oh sh-t you and Mally still friends. That’s some grown a-s sh-t. Masika is a queen.”

Fans were first introduced to Kalysha and Mally Mall’s relationship during season 1 of “LHHH.” At the time, Kalysha’s co-star Nikki Mudarris, known as Miss Nikki Baby, was also dating the hip-hop producer. The two women found out Mally Mall was simultaneously seeing both of them, which led to Kalysha and Mudarris feuding over the course of the season. Kalysha left the reality show in 2018.

Kalysha has a 4-year-old daughter Khari Barbie Maxwell with rapper Fetty Wap. Mudarris and Kalysha quashed their beef in 2016 during Kalysha’s pregnancy. The founder of Nude by Nikki sent Kalysha and her daughter a gift shortly after Khari was born.

Democracy needs journalism it can trust.

This election season, the stakes are higher than usual — and so is the pressure on newsrooms to soften their coverage, stay quiet, or just disappear. Independent reporting, the kind that answers to readers instead of advertisers or political pressure, matters more in a moment like this, not less.

For over 14 years, Atlanta Black Star has stayed independent and reader-funded. We have no corporate owner and no shareholders telling us what to cover or how to cover it. That independence is also our biggest vulnerability: nothing protects it except readers choosing to fund it directly.

Newspaper ad revenue has fallen more than 80% since 2005, and local newsrooms are closing at a rate of roughly two a week nationwide. When outlets go under in a moment like this, it's rarely the independent, reader-funded ones that get to stick around.

We know a request for support isn't why you came here. But without readers choosing to fund this work directly, the depth of reporting we can do at home and abroad shrinks along with everyone else's. If you're not in a position to give, that doesn't change how much we value you as a reader.

If you are able to, a recurring contribution does more for us than a single one-time gift, because it lets us plan the next investigation instead of just the next invoice. It takes about 30 seconds, no long form, no account. Thank you for continuing to support independent journalism and freedom of the press.
