Lana Del Rey Addresses Rant About Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj and Doja Cat After Being Ripped to Shreds on Social Media

Lana Del Rey said she’s been wronged by music critics and not given the same creative space as other female artists like Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, and Doja Cat.

The singer got pummeled on social media once her post made the internet rounds, and she began trending on Twitter. She, however, attempted to clear up her comments later on.

Addressing the backlash, she wrote, “Bro. This is sad to make it about a WOC issue when I’m talking about my favorite singers. I could’ve literally said anyone but I picked my favorite f–king people. And this is the problem with society today, not everything is about whatever you want it to be. It’s exactly the point of my post– there are certain women that culture doesn’t want to have a voice it may not have to do with race I don’t know what it has to do with. I don’t care anymore but don’t ever ever ever ever bro– call me racist because that is bulls–t.”

She continued, “And my last and final note on everything– when I said people who look like me– I meant the people who don’t look strong or necessarily smart, or like they’re in control etc. it’s about advocating for a more delicate personality, not for white woman — thanks for the Karen comments tho. V helpful.”

Her initial comments came under fire after she seemingly targeted certain WOC who were more successful than her.

“Question for the culture,” Del Rey began her post. “Now that Doja Cat, Ariana [Grande], Camila [Cabello], Cardi B, Kehlani and Nicki Minaj and Beyoncé have had number ones with songs about being sexy, wearing no clothes, f——g, cheating etc – Can I please go back to singing about being embodied, feeling beautiful by being in love even if the relationship is not perfect, or dancing for money – or whatever I want – without being crucified or saying that I’m glamorizing abuse?”

She added, “I’m fed up with female writers and alt singers saying that I glamorize abuse when in reality I’m just a glamorous person singing about the realities of what we are all now seeing are very prevalent emotionally abusive relationships all over the world.”

Many accused Del Rey of playing victim. Some said that Beyoncé and the other women she mentioned faced plenty of backlash for delivering salacious material.

“Lana Del Rey deserved to be eviscerated for that,” one person tweeted. “The audacity toward the end of that incorrect rant about how she helped make it comfortable to women to emote about her relationships… The blues did that before you, Lana.”

“Beyoncé was threatened to get lynched because she dared to sing about police brutality, Ariana got death threats for the death of her boyfriend that she had no control over. Kehlani got death + rape threats for a breakup song. All the women Lana mentioned have been through hell,” another person wrote.

“A third person stated, “All the Black women that lana listed especially nicki and beyonce have all faced HEAVY criticism for their music and CONTENT, and criticism of their sexuality in music has been criticized for YEARS.”

Someone else on Twitter wrote, “Black Twitter summoning Azealia Banks on Instagram to destroy Lana Del Rey.”

Banks was mentioned because she got into a heated exchange with Del Rey in 2018 after Del Rey slammed a MAGA hat wearing-Kanye West for giving a pro-Donald Trump speech on “Saturday Night Live.”

“Trump becoming our president was a loss for our country but your support of him is a loss for the culture,” Del Rey wrote on Instagram then.

“I’m tried of white women in Hollywood and their fake ass innocent agendas,” Banks replied. “These b——s will take any opportunity to make themselves seem more righteous in regards to Black men who don’t bow down to their vapid ‘social power’ or more civilized and respectable than the Black women that have a REAL reason to be angry.”

The two women had more exchanges, which ended with Del Rey telling Banks that she was willing to fight. Banks then made fun of her looks.
