Smoke is still billowing from the internet after Beyoncé and Megan Thee Stallion‘s “Savage” remix set the internet ablaze on Wednesday. The song is dripping with heavy swagger, just like the original, and both ladies recite lyrics about opulent lifestyles and being a boss.
The mayor of Houston, Texas, Sylvester Turner, may appreciate the sonic qualities of the “Savage” remix, but he seems to appreciate its charitable component a lot more.
Beyoncé and Megan are both natives of Houston, and because they’re donating the proceeds of the “Savage” remix to Bread of Life — a Houston charity that helps homeless people and those impoverished — the mayor has presented them with their own individual days.
“#Htown’s @Beyonce & @theestallion dropped a new remix that is just #Savage, because of both artists contributions to uplifting our communities, holding down #HTown, & for helping us remain #HoustonStrong our city will present both artists with their own respective days,” he tweeted on Wednesday, April 29.
“It’s great to see proceeds from the single’s purchase will support Bread of Life,” Turner’s message continued. “Let’s purchase & support this organization’s efforts. I look forward to connecting with both artists teams to find the appropriate time to make these requests a reality. st #HoustonStrong.”
Megan shared the mayor’s tweet on her Instagram page and encouraged all of her 10 million-plus followers to support the cause and keep playing her “Savage” remix.
“Houston Hotties we’re getting a dayyyy🔥🔥🔥🔥🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽 @Beyoncé and I decided to give all artist proceeds to ‘bread of life’ and give back to our home town Houston Texas! “So make sure y’all stream for a good cause !!!” she wrote on Thursday, April 30.
“Savage” the remix landed in the No. 1 positions on Apple Music and iTunes soon after it dropped. Megan told her followers how emotional she was about working with Beyoncé and giving back to her city.
“I’m literally crying 😭 being from HOUSTON MF TEXAS this s–t means EVERYTHING to me !!!!” wrote Megan. “SAVAGE REMIX FT THE QUEEN @BEYONCE OUT NOW! All the artist proceeds of the song goes to @breadoflifehou to support our city during this pandemic! 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽 HOTTIES WE UP 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 🐎🐎🐎🐎🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝.”
A slew of rappers sent congratulatory messages to Megan because of the Beyoncé collaboration, artists such as Lil Nas X, DaBaby and Juicy J, who tweeted “Hard congrats!”
