Golden State Warriors All-Star guard Steph Curry and his wife Ayesha Curry blossomed from childhood sweethearts to a marriage that captured the hearts of sports fans and non-fans alike. The high-profile couple tied the knot in 2011, but their marriage might not have been possible if they had listened to Gabrielle Union.
The Currys recently went on a double date with Union and her husband, former Miami Heat player Dwyane Wade. Abiding by the current social distancing guidelines, the couples met over an Instagram Live session. During the conversation, Union recalled a time when she encouraged the Currys to break up.
“I enjoyed my life,” Union said. “And that is the exact advice I gave Ayesha and a young Steph at D. Wright’s 25th birthday party,” she added, referring to Wade’s former teammate Dorell Wright, who turned 25 in December 2010.
The Currys remembered Union’s relationship advice and started laughing. Union told them, “You guys, the likelihood of this working out is very low.” She added, “And you should just break up now and have sex with other people.” The 47-year-old actress hinted that she used a different wording back then, but her message was still the same. “But, is that not what I told y’all both?” Union asked them.
Steph and Ayesha agreed. Ayesha said, “You looked at me and said, ‘How old are you?… OK.’” Union, a NAACP Image Award Winner, hinted that she had no intention of settling down in her younger years and told the Currys their relationship is rare.
“You guys are unicorns. Um … like … literally, there are very, very few people that I’ve met who have been consistent. Um … for… I mean I’ve known you guys … sh-t, well over a decade, and there’s a lot of people who talk about faith and there’s a lot of people who talk about moving the culture forward, but something isn’t real somewhere. Right?” Union said.
Union implied that people have asked her if the Currys are genuine about their relationship and their beliefs. “And I’m like, yes. They’re some of the only people that I’ve … that I’ve met who’ve been consistent.” Union mentioned that she would still give the couple the same advice today, but fans seemed to be happy that the Currys did not listen to Union.
“Glad you did not listen to Gabrielle. Even that advice was irresponsible. sleep around? And what if you would have got all kind of diseases, unwanted pregnancies, etc.”
“Stand strong Ayesha n Steph. Don’t listen to loose people with no boundaries. They’ll fall for anything.”
“That’s why Gabby and Dwade are so good together they’re both reformed THOTS.”
“ANYONE that listens to a woman that started sleeping with a married man before he divorced his wife, is a fool anyway. Yes, I said it!”
Steph and Ayesha Curry have three children in 7-year-old Riley Curry, 4-year-old Ryan Curry, and 1-year-old Canon Curry.
