‘That’s Facts’: Toya Johnson Gives Dating Advice, Fans Co-Sign What They Hear

The pandemic has many people self-isolating in the safety of their homes and going live on Instagram to communicate with followers, family, and friends. “T.I. & Tiny: Friends & Family Hustle,” reality star Toya Johnson is among many participating in live chats.

The mother of two took to Instagram Live with R&B songstress and Fox Soul host Keyshia Cole for her “One On One with Keyshia Cole” show to discuss dating.

“When you’re dating, you look for those signs in a man earlier on,” the 36-year-old said to Cole. Johnson went on to say when you see a man disrespecting his mother you can expect that he will do the same to you.

“How do you think he’s going to respect you if he can’t respect the person that gave birth to him?” Johnson continued.

Johnson added that she tells her oldest daughter, Reginae Carter, whom she shares with rapper Lil Wayne, the same thing continuously. “You pay attention to a man’s patterns before you fall in love with his a–, you learn that.”

Johnson concluded that she also tells her adult daughter to pay attention to how the man treats women like his baby mothers in his life, but she prefers Carter not date a man with children because of the drama it brings.

Carter was in a relationship with rapper YFN Lucci, who is the father of four, which could be what Johnson was alluding to during the Instagram Live.

Cole can be seen nodding and laughing in agreement with Johnson’s statements.

The author and reality star then turned the question to her followers on the ’Gram.

“Ladies, do you agree or disagree with this statement that I made? Is this facts or bullsh-t? Let’s talk (leave your comments below). 👇🏽.”

Many fans sided with Johnson’s comments about observing a man’s patterns before moving forward with a relationship.

“Toyaaaaaaa, speak it!!! Pay attention to a man’s pattern before you dive into a relationship.”

“That’s facts! The way a man treats his mother, sisters… the women in his life says a lot about how he’s going to treat you !!!”

“GREEEEE!!!!! We have kids the same age, and I tell my daughters all the time the same sh–! It’s not because we don’t love them or want them to live their live it’s because we don’t want them to feel the same hurt that we had to endure.”

“Exactly Why I Don’t Want A Man With Kids, I Tried It Once NEVERRR Again, She Only Wanted To Come Back Into His Life As “A Family” Bc She Seen Us Getting Serious. Nah, I’m Good, I Don’t Have Kids So Why Should I Deal With A Man That Does That Have A Bm Who THINK They Still Together 🤨.”

“Nothing but facts, sister girlllll 💯💯.”

“I agree totally wit this cause how a man treat his momma is how he going to treat you.”

“This is the truth! Look at how they treat/respect their mom. If you can help it, leave dudes with bm drama alone.”

“I tell my son all the time since he doesn’t have kids; he shouldn’t date a woman with kids. Don’t deal with anything extra you don’t have to.”

Still independent.

We hope this story was worth your time. For over 14 years, Atlanta Black Star has stayed Black-owned and independently run. We didn't get here by waiting on ad budgets that were never built to prioritize us. Our readers did that.

Corporate support for Black media has always been thin. Outlets like ours get roughly 1% of the $170 billion spent on U.S. advertising each year, and that margin is shrinking further as advertisers walk back the DEI-linked commitments they made in 2020. That's the backdrop. It's not why we're asking.

The wider picture isn't any steadier. Newspaper ad revenue has fallen more than 80% since 2005, and local newsrooms are closing at a rate of roughly two a week nationwide. When outlets go under, it's rarely the ones built to center a Black perspective from the ground up that get to stick around.

We know a request for support isn't why you came here. But without readers choosing to fund this work directly, the depth of reporting we can do at home and abroad shrinks along with everyone else's. If you're not in a position to give, that doesn't change how much we value you as a reader.

If you are able to, a recurring contribution does more for us than a single one-time gift, because it lets us plan the next investigation instead of just the next invoice. It takes about 30 seconds, no long form, no account. Thank you for continuing to support independent journalism and freedom of the press.
