Vanessa Bryant shared a video of Kobe Bryant and their daughter Gianna Bryant on Instagram Thursday, March 26. The clip shows Kobe talking about coaching Gianna in basketball, and how she developed a true love for the game.
Bryant and Gianna, who was 13, passed away with seven others in a helicopter crash on Jan. 26.
“She started out playing soccer, which is one of my favorite sports as well,” Kobe said in the video. “But then when she asked about learning the game of basketball, I started teaching her piece by piece, and she started enjoying it and loving it and now she plays every day. So it’s been a joy to watch her grow and to be there every day for that process.”
Bryant then talked about Gianna’s competitive nature.
“Her temperament is a lot like mine,” he explained. “She’s extremely competitive, very fiery and backs down from no challenge. She has a mixture. A good mix of me and a good mix of her mama, so that makes her even more competitive than I am.”
In the first 18 hours that the video was posted, it received more than 5 million views, with many people expressing to Vanessa just how moving they found it to be.
“I love how he talks about her! Still praying for you and your girls! ❤️,” wrote someone on Instagram.
“Proud Daddy!” another person stated. “So lucky to have such beautiful memories on tape forever and ever!”
“Absolutely loved watching her play,” another person communicated. “Such fire and such spirit. Love always. ❤️🖤🏀🖤.”
Some also shared that they’ve never stopped thinking about Vanessa’s loss and still can’t believe that Kobe and Gianna are gone.
“Still doesn’t seem real 😢,” one person wrote.
