‘Heroic’: Kobe Bryant’s Last Act Revealed, Agent Says He Was Trying to Jump Start a Young Girl’s Career

A former sports agent for Kobe Bryant is one of many to praise the NBA star’s actions on and off the court before his tragic death in a Jan. 26 helicopter crash.

One act in particular is being called “heroic” and took place as Bryant was on that helicopter where he lost his life with daughter Gianna Bryant and seven others. During a Feb. 24 memorial tribute to honor Bryant and his daughter, Bryant’s one-time agent, Los Angeles Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka, shared of how one of Bryant’s last acts was a request to help his friends’ daughter get an internship with a baseball agent in Southern California. Bryant texted Pelinka from the helicopter.

Those friends were John and Keri Altobelli, and Bryant was trying to assist their 16-year-old daughter Lexi Altobelli. Lexi’s parents and younger sister Alyssa were also on the helicopter when it went down.

Pelinka said he received the text from Bryant about the internship during church and initially was going to ignore it to focus on the sermon. But something urged him to look at it immediately and answer Bryant right then and there.

“I grabbed my phone and texted Kobe back that I had seen the baseball agent at a Lakers game just the other night and was happy to help him with whatever he wanted,” Pelinka explained Pelinka, who was among other high-profile ceremony speakers to include Shaquille O’Neal and Michael Jordan.

“It was now just past 9:30,” he continued. “Kobe vouched for the girl’s character, intellect and work ethic. He clearly wanted to champion a bright future for her. I text Kobe right back and said I would put a plan in motion to help him get that done. A handful of minutes later, Kobe, Gianna and seven other beautiful souls ascended into heaven.”

Pelinka said this was a way of Bryant displaying his altruism to the very end.

“Kobe’s last human act was heroic,” Pelinka stated. “He wanted to use his platform to bless and shape a young girl’s future. Hasn’t Kobe done that for all of us?”

According to reports, the agent that Pelinka saw at the Lakers game was Major League Baseball agent Scott Boras, who said he offered Lexi an internship after hearing Pelinka’s speech.
