Usually upbeat, Loni Love got serious — and emotional — on “The Real” this week while defending Naturi Naughton against 50 Cent.
The comedian took on the “Power” executive producer 50 after he took to Instagram to bash his former co-star’s hair.
“POWER never ends, Ghost f–ked up the edges. LOL,” 50 captioned a meme of Omari Hardwick‘s character Ghost pressing his finger against Naughton’s character Tasha’s forehead. The other photo featured an image of Naughton with her forehead prominently on display, her hairline seemingly pushed back.
The post spawned criticism from fans, and Love was among those who felt the post, which has since garnered more than 19,000 comments, was not a laughing matter.
“What I’m tired of is that our people always talk about our people,” Love says to applause from the audience. “I don’t think that that’s right. We’re always making fun.”
Love went on to discuss sportscaster Pam Oliver, who worked as a sideline reporter for Fox Sports NFL before Erin Andrews replaced her following a demotion in 2014. Sports Illustrated reported that Oliver had been an NFL broadcaster for two decades at the time.
“They made up memes, talked about her wigs, they made up an account — ‘Pam Oliver’s Wigs — and they were making up all kind of memes,” Loni explained. “And I believe that had some influence because she ended up getting replaced by Erin Andrews.
“It’s just a shame that our people, we work so hard to get where we are,” Love continues. “And to make fun of that girl …”
Many fans sided with Love.
“Although I dislike Loni sometimes … She was speaking nothing but facts !!!”
“Mannnn thank you soooo much for bringing light to this ! I say this all the time .. it’s so frustrating to see ‘US’ down one another the way we do ! I believe we can change if more of us spread more awareness to this !”
“I’m TIRED of it too, Loni smh especially blk women …we need to do better! I love to see my sistas win 👑 and it’s crazy how a lot of blk women enjoy tearing down other blk women smh”
Still, some people wrote of 50’s post as simply a joke.
“We as a people have always played the dozens with each other.. It was a joke, she of all people should understand seeing how she’s a comedian..”
“I thought it was a joke”
Naughton herself caught wind of Love’s remarks and commented on “The Real” show’s Instagram page, “I appreciate you @comiclonilove ❤️🙏🏾.”
And fans gave her support in kind.
“@naturi4real love u girl wig or no damn wig keep getting to the bag 💰💯❤️”
“@naturi4real love you!, you’re amazing. 💕♥️”
