‘You Wrong for That’: How Steve Harvey Got His Grandson to Stop Being Vegan

Steve Harvey has made it known that he enjoys all the Southern fixings — including meals that are heavy on the red meat and poultry. But his grandson was not hip to that — until the comedian changed that.

Harvey explained as much in an online segment called “Rapid Fire with Steve Harvey,” which debuted on his YouTube page Oct. 28.

“He’s never had meat,” Harvey explains of his daughter Karli Harvey Raymond’s son Benjamin Troy “Buddha” Raymond II. “He came over to the house one day … and I had this maple-coated bacon and this 26-year aged cheese. … So I’m eating this bacon and my little grandson comes in — little Buddha — and he’s looking at me.

Since his 3-year-old grandson, whose parents are each vegan, was looking up at what his grandpa had to eat, Harvey offered Benjamin a bite of bacon.

“He’s never had meat in his life,” Harvey says. “You know when a little kid is eating some s–t and it’s or the first time and they don’t know what the f–k it is but it’s delicious? … He was trying to process, what the f–k is this?”

When Karli walked into the room and asked her dad what her son, who is nicknamed BJ, was eating, she was livid.

“How could you! We’re vegans and you don’t respect anything about us!” she said after exclaiming her son does not eat meat despite him gnawing on the bacon.

Yet Harvey shot back at his daughter by reminding her that her “meat-eating ass daddy” paid for her to attend college and helped with a down payment on her home.

Meanwhile, fans found humor in the moment, unlike Karli.

“You wrong for that🤣🤣🤣 but I love bacon🥓 too😂😂”

“That’s right!! Feed that baby boy!!! Now give him a pork chop!!🤣🤣🤣”

“haha.u the man steve.”

Steve has had his share of experiences with wanting to venture into healthier eating.

The former “Steve” host once detailed how he tried and failed to adopt a vegan diet for about a month in 2014.

“I’m counting the days till this is over,” he said on “The Meredith Viera Show” that year. “I hate this. This ain’t gon’ make it. I thought I’d give it a shot. I’m detoxing, I was doing the vegan diet and I’m in the raw section — where all your food has to be raw — right now. And I’m going to eat something really soon that I have killed. I ain’t into this vegan mess. Y’all can have this here back as soon as Sept. 28 gets here it’s over. That’ll be 28 days.”
