R&B artists sing about it, screenwriters pen movies on the subject and authors write about it in books: And that is, letting go is hard to do, which seems to be the case for Monica‘s ex Shannon Brown, according to many.
The former couple got married in 2010, and the singer filed for divorce in March of this year.
The divorce was finalized on Oct. 22, after Monica appeared in a Fayetteville, Georgia, courthouse with her attorney. The judge granted her divorce request in under 10 minutes, according to TMZ, and she was also given back her maiden name of Arnold.
But that doesn’t mean that Brown isn’t still attracted to the “Don’t Take it Personal” performer, which many seem to think after he reacted to one of her photos.
On Monday, Monica shared three pictures of herself sporting all black. One shows her sitting on some steps, another is a full-length shot and the third shows her wearing a pair of sunglasses.
“If I said it I meant it !! Long & Strong,” she wrote in the picture that shows her standing. And that’s the one Brown commented on by leaving 27 smiling face emojis with hearts over the eyes.
Afterwards, a lot of people took notice of the former NBA player’s comment and clowned him.
“Trying to get that old thang back 😫,” one person wrote.
“Why do men wait till it’s too late to show the love & affection that the woman’s been begging throughout the whole relationship?” another person asked.
“Naw he missed So Gone matter fact he never got the memo about After the Storm,” a third person wrote bringing up Monica’s 2003 single and the album it lives on.
But it’s possible that Monica and her ex are still friendly with each other. Or at the very least, she doesn’t have bitter feelings toward him, which she talked about in an interview earlier this year.
“We were married almost nine years, and I think life changes really got the best of both of us at times,” said Monica. “I take accountability for what my part is. Divorce has not been easy.”
“One thing about me is, I’m gonna respect him to the death, though. Because he didn’t do anything,” she added. “I don’t hate him.”
The couple had a daughter in 2013 named Laiyah Brown, and Monica has two boys with the rapper Rocko named Rocko and Romelo.
