Despite the ongoing impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump, rappers Cardi B and Chance the Rapper think the current commander-in-chief will get four more years in the Oval Office.
The pair made the admission while promoting Netflix’s new music competition series, “Rhythm + Flow” on Tuesday’s episode of T.I.’s podcast “expediTIously.”
“You all can quote me on this a couple of years down the line: I think Trump is going to win again at the next election because he’s got the biggest base,” the Chicago-based MC said at the 34:37-minute mark of the podcast.
And despite her ardent support of Democratic presidential hopeful Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, Cardi agreed with Chance’s assertion saying, “he does. I believe it.”
“I really hate to say it, but sometimes I do believe that Trump will be winning,” the Bronx-raised rapper went on after Chance noted the president after Trump — should he not win — will be “our first-ever independent president.”
“Just because due to the fact that every single time I don’t see nobody saying they love a Democratic candidate. There’s no candidate that people are saying, like, we love, we want them to win,” Cardi says.
While the field for Democratic presidential hopefuls is crowded, there are only four notable Republicans vying for a spot according to Ballotpedia. Aside from Trump, they are former Rep. Joe Walsh, former Massachusetts Gov. Bill Weld and former South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford, who also used to be a member of the U.S. House of Representatives. Meanwhile, Cardi’s top presidential option Sanders is just one of a dozen potential candidates vying for the Democratic nomination. Among them are California Sen. Kamala Harris, New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker, former Vice President Joe Biden and Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren.
Despite all the options, some Twitter users feel Cardi and Chance may not be totally wrong in their take on Trump’s chances at winning 2020.
“They are correct.”
“He’s like Charles Manson or these cult leaders who have their followers problem is he has a mass amount so they may not be wrong.”
“They know what’s going on that’s why…….. if he was going to get impeached it would’ve happened and proven claims would’ve came to light.”
Still, some poked holes in the star’s reasoning.
“Losing the popular vote is the opposite of having ‘the biggest base’. Couldn’t care less about the president and I’m not salty Hillary lost. But let’s not give him or his supporters an ego boost by exaggerating how many of them there are.”
“Not at all…his base a small…remember Hillary one the popular vote! Its the electoral collage that votes the president! And that needs to change. If they do not flip the key states…Trump will win again #getyourfactsstraight.”
