Simone Biles has once again proved why she’s considered one of the world’s greatest athletes.
The Olympic champion gymnast competed in the 2019 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Stuttgart, Germany, over the weekend and managed to land some ultra-hard moves.
Biles made history Saturday by landing the triple-double in her floor routine and then the double-double dismount on the balance beam. The name for the double-double is set to be known as the Biles, while it’s the triple-double that has potentially earned the moniker Biles, II according to a tweet from USA Gymnastics Saturday. Both will be included in the women’s Code of Points with her name representing them.
The triple-double includes a double backflip and three twists, while the double-double dismount includes one backflip and two twists. The Biles and Biles II join two other moves the gymnast has named after her. According to CNN, one is in the floor exercise and one is on a vault.
In order for a gymnast to get a move named after them, Good Morning America reports they are required to successfully perform the gesture at either the World Championships or the Olympic Games. Team USA states the International Gymnastics Federation will determine if Biles performed each move cleanly enough to name them after her in the near future.
“I still feel like I can do better,” USA Gymnastics reported Biles said after earning 59.432 points to qualify in first place to the all-around final. “My goal going into tonight was to not be great. It wasn’t to do great, it was to do well, and I feel like I accomplished that.”
Still, Biles wore a big smile on her face after landing the double-double.
“That’s how I train beam,” she told USA Today. “It finally felt good to go out there and hit a beam routine like I train because I feel like every time I go up to compete beam, I just like bomb it. So it felt really good to nail it.”
Biles is now set to compete for an unparalleled fifth world crown. In total, Biles helped Team USA tally 174.205 on the opening day of qualifications, which is five points ahead of China, which earned 169.161 points.
Meanwhile, those on social media are amazed by and living for Biles’ big moves.
“I’ve never seen a better gymnast.”
“🐐!!!! The woman blows my mind with her talent.”
“She’s Berserk! Usain Bolt type talent”
She even got love from LeBron James who tweeted, “Simone you are flat out INCREDIBLE!!! ❤️ @Simone_Biles.”
