‘All That Airbrush and Forgot the Hands’: Nene Leakes’ Impromptu Photo Shoot Takes a Major Turn Among Fans

Nene Leakes seems to have taken part in an impromptu photo shoot, thanks to her stylist Troi Anthony coming to town. But while “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” star was serving face, fans got onto her about some editing that appeared to have taken place after the fact.

“Whenever @kingtroi is in town, he’s forever taking pics of me,” Leakes captioned an August 20 pic of her on the ground in a gown and striking a pose.

Initially, fans began piling on the compliments.

“Yezzz…Nene face beat to the gawds come thru 💃💃💃”

“Serving I’ve fallen and I can’t get up realness.”

“You’re Beautiful Mrs. Leakes, your makeup is FLAWLESS 🤗❤️”

“Absolutely beautiful. Black does not crack. I don’t know how old you are. But wow. What did you look like at 21? #Stunning👏🏽👏🏽”

However, others soon began poking holes in the theory that only makeup was doing the work on Leakes’ face. They pointed out what appeared to be some photo editing done to smooth out her mug.

“Nice pic @neneleakes but way 2 much airbrush, so much can’t tell the difference between u and the carpet..”

“You gone airbrush yo self to death girl! Get up..”

“All that airbrush but forgot the hands…😬”

“A lot of air brushing… doesn’t even look like you.”

“Nice picture but it’s too much photoshopping or too much plastic surgery.”

“photoshop just hasn’t been your friend these past few months.”

The last comment may reference one of the last photos Leakes posted this summer that focused in on her smiley appearance.

A pic the star shared to social media at the end of May had Leakes appearing to look barely recognizable.

“Who dis woman?!?!”

“What’s wrong with the top of her lip and nose 🙄🙄 and don’t say it’s contour for the idiots…I do makeup😑😑!”

“Dam did she get another nose job. Gurl you said your rich..go to Dr Nasif in LA and get a nose appropriate for your face..”

While Leakes has not addressed accusations of relying heavily on photo editing apps, she has made it clear in the past that she has no issue with heading under the knife.

Speaking on “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen,” Leakes told the host in 2016 about her two nose jobs.

“My cartilage was growing in my nose, and my tip was touching the top of my lip,” she explained before adding, “I didn’t get a full rhinoplasty the first time. No, when I did the first time, I only had my nostrils taken in on the side the very first time, and then this time, I had more cartilage moved around in my nose.”

Independent journalism still matters.

We hope this story was worth your time. For over 14 years, Atlanta Black Star has stayed Black-owned and independently run. We didn't get here by waiting on ad budgets that were never built to prioritize us. Our readers did that.

Corporate support for Black media has always been thin. Outlets like ours get roughly 1% of the $170 billion spent on U.S. advertising each year, and that margin is shrinking further as advertisers walk back the DEI-linked commitments they made in 2020. That's the backdrop. It's not why we're asking.

The wider picture isn't any steadier. Newspaper ad revenue has fallen more than 80% since 2005, and local newsrooms are closing at a rate of roughly two a week nationwide. When outlets go under, it's rarely the ones built to center a Black perspective from the ground up that get to stick around.

We know a request for support isn't why you came here. But without readers choosing to fund this work directly, the depth of reporting we can do at home and abroad shrinks along with everyone else's. If you're not in a position to give, that doesn't change how much we value you as a reader.

If you are able to, a recurring contribution does more for us than a single one-time gift, because it lets us plan the next investigation instead of just the next invoice. It takes about 30 seconds, no long form, no account. Thank you for continuing to support independent journalism and freedom of the press.
