Kid Cudi‘s next album will be called “Entergalatic,” and it’ll be coupled with a new adult-themed animated series on Netflix.
Deadline reports that Cudi, real name Scott Mescudi, has partnered with “black-ish” creator Kenya Barris for the series, and it’ll feature music from his forthcoming album. The overall plot will center on a young man’s journey to finding love.
The new show was written by Cudi, as well as Ian Edelman, who created the HBO series “How to Make It in America,” which the “Day ‘N’ Nite” performer starred in for two seasons in 2010 and 2011.
The announcement of the animated series comes almost a year after it was revealed that Barris signed an exclusive three-year production agreement with the streaming company. According to Variety, the deal is valued at about $100 million and it carries an option for two more years.
Barris signed the agreement after he left his contract with ABC early because the network wouldn’t air a “black-ish” episode that dealt with NFL players kneeling for the national anthem.
He still executive produces the series, however, and does the same for its spinoffs “Grown-ish” and the upcoming “Mixed-ish,” about the “black-ish” character Rainbow’s childhood.
“Entergalatic,” which will be produced through Barris’ company Khalabo Ink Society, will be the third show he’s put together for Netflix since inking the deal last year.
He already has a black sketch comedy series on the way called the “Astronomy Club,” as well as a scripted comedy series titled “Black Excellence” that he’ll also star in with Rashida Jones.
Barris shared news of “Entergalatic” Monday on Instagram.
“Let’s. F—in’. GO!!!” he wrote. “Me and my GUY @kidcudi are about to get it in!!!! Can’t wait for you to hear, see, and FEEL the world we’re about to take you into!!”
