Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar drew the ire of conservatives Tuesday when she dubbed Fox News’ Tucker Carlson a “racist fool” following his latest attack on the Muslim congresswoman.
Omar clapped back after the conservative commentator argued during the July 9 airing of his show that the Somali immigrant has an “undisguised contempt for the United States and for it’s people.”
“Virtually every statement she makes accuses Americans of bigotry and racism,” Tucker ranted. “That should worry you.”
The Fox News pundit proceeded to state that Omar is “living proof” that the nation’s immigration policies are “dangerous” and severely lacking.
“So be grateful for Ilhan Omar, as annoying as she is,” Carlson said, likening the congresswoman to “a living fire alarm.” “[She’s] a warning to the rest of us that we’d better change our immigration system immediately — or else.”
The Minnesota Democrat, who made history as one of the two first Muslim women elected to Congress, fired back that evening with a few jabs of her own.
“Not gonna lie, it’s kinda fun watching a racist fool like this weeping about my presence in Congress,” Omar wrote on Twitter. “No lies will stamp out my love for this country, or my resolve to make our union more perfect. They will just have to get used to calling me Congresswoman!”
The lawmaker’s response drew plenty of praise from her supporters, but sent conservatives into a tizzy.
“I am no fan of fox news or any mainstream media, but IIhan is a prime example of racism and hatred towards white Americans,” one Twitter user opined. “Tucker is only alerting all people’s of color that we can’t and should not allow people like IIhan, or any young radical in seats of power.”
“Excellent commentary!,” another said, backing Carlson. “You’re absolutely speaking to truth about her. All I have heard and seen from her is hate speech and anti American views! ‘Some people did something’ please resign @IlhanMN. God Bless America.”
“You criticize US & it’s Patriots at every turn, and alienate us with your incindiary rhetoric,” a fellow critic chimed in. “@TuckerCarlson is probably one of the most intelligent Americans alive. His views & beliefs reflect the highest of American integrity and honor, and you call him a ‘racist fool?’”
