‘The Art of the Climb’: Meek Mill Is Now a Co-Owner of Lids Sports Apparel

Meek Mill is now in the hat business.

But he’s not just putting out his own hat line, he’s now a co-owner of the sports apparel retailer Lids. The chain has more than 1,100 U.S. locations in malls, airports and regular stand-alone stores, according to its website. And there are also locations in Puerto Rico as well as Canada.

In a press release, Mill said he’s thrilled to be a part of Lids for two reasons. One, he’s admired the chain since his younger days and, two, being a co-owner allows him to grow as a businessperson.

“I’ve always been a fan of Lids,” the rapper stated. “Growing up, I remember buying their hats to match my outfits and look my best. It’s amazing to see my relationship with the brand come full-circle and have the opportunity to evolve as a businessman. We have a great team in place and we’re looking forward to taking Lids to new heights.”

Mill also shared the news on his Instagram page and received a bunch of congratulatory messages.

“Yesssssirrrrr! We are OWNING thangs from here on out! Congrats amigo👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽,” one person commented.

“THE ART OF THE CLIMB! ☝🏽” wrote someone else.

And Mill’s ascension also has to do with The Reform Alliance — an organization he started with Jay-Z, Van Jones, Philadelphia 76ers co-owner Michael Rubin and others.

The aim is to fight for criminal justice reform and improve the laws surrounding probation and parole.

In regards to his new Lids venture, Mill will also launch a line of limited edition hats in August of this year, and one of his new business partners explained why he’s the perfect person to come aboard.

“It’s truly a pleasure to welcome Meek to the Lids ownership team,” said Lawrence Berger, the co-founder of Lids parent group Ames Watson.

“From afar, I’ve respected Meek’s zeal for music and criminal justice reform, and I know that enthusiasm will translate to our work with Lids. His business acumen, passion for fashion and creative outlook will be vital to making us a more versatile brand,” he added.
