‘Respect’: DJ Khaled Plans to Donate 100 Percent of Proceeds from New Single with Nipsey Hussle to His Children

A few days before Nipsey Hussle was shot and killed in front of his Marathon Clothing Store in March, he filmed a video with DJ Khaled and John Legend.

It was for a song called “Higher,” which will be on Khaled’s forthcoming album “Father of Asahd,” and TMZ released behind-the-scenes footage of the video on Thursday. In it, you can see Legend playing a grand piano, Hussle rapping and Khaled dancing next to him.

In fact, the Miami-based DJ posted a photo of Hussle on Wednesday and revealed that he’ll donate the proceeds from “Higher” to the rapper’s children Emani and Kross Asghedom. Khaled also said that he got the OK from Hussle’s family to release the video.

“Recently I embarked on a soul-searching journey down a road I never thought I would travel in a million years,” he wrote. “It began when a tragedy robbed the world of an enlightened soul, a brother, a father, a partner and my friend Nipsey Hussle.”

“Just days prior, he shared his energy and positivity with me on a video set for a song called “Higher.” After much prayer and reflection, and with the full blessing of the Asghedom family, I am sharing that moment with the world … I, my co-writers, producers and label partners are donating 100% of our proceeds from ‘Higher’ to Nipsey’s children, Emani and Kross.”

Legend also acknowledged the video but did it on March 31, the day Hussle was killed.

“I just spent Thursday with him filming a video for a beautiful new song we created with Khaled,” wrote Legend. “We filmed in Inglewood close to where he grew up. He was so gifted, so proud of his home, so invested in his community. Utterly stunned that he’s gone so soon.”

Underneath Khaled’s post, people thanked him for donating the money to Hussle’s children and thought it was a stand-up thing to do.

“What a nice tribute to your friend and what a great way to honor his memory,” someone wrote.

“That’s whats up @DjKhaled,” another person commented. “I respect and love you even more for being soooo kind and thoughtful. May God keep blessing you..πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™πŸ’™πŸ’™πŸ’™πŸ’™πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œ.”

The “Higher” video will be released on Friday, May 17.
