‘Big Day For the Culture’: Rihanna Becomes First Black Woman To Head Own Line Under LVMH Brand

“A big day for the culture.”

That’s how Rihanna described the news that her Fenty line will be a part of the French luxury goods conglomerate LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton.

The partnership makes Rihanna the first woman to create her own brand at LVMH and “the first woman of color at the top of an LVMH maison,” according to the New York Times. She’s also the first person to start a new house under its banner since 1987.

Products under the new deal will be released this spring, and Fenty will join other LVMH brands like Givenchy, Dior and Fendi on the fashion and leather goods end, Bulgar, as well as Hublot on the side of watches and jewelry, plus, Acqua di Parma and Guerlain under the perfumes and cosmetics division.

“Designing a line like this with LVMH is an incredibly special moment for us,” Rihanna said in a statement. “[Bernard Arnault, the chairman and CEO of LVMH] has given me a unique opportunity to develop a fashion house in the luxury sector, with no artistic limits. I couldn’t imagine a better partner both creatively and business-wise, and I’m ready for the world to see what we have built together.”

The “Diamonds” singer also shared the news on her Instagram page and seemed humbled by the deal.

“thank you Mr. Arnault for believing in this little girl from the left side of an island, and for giving me the opportunity to grow with you at @LVMH,” she wrote. “This is proof that nothing is impossible. Glory be to God. 🙏🏿”

Ri’s fans sent a bunch of congratulations afterwards and said they’re not only proud but inspired.

“Yes Rihanna! You make me wanna cry! Show them that you are capable of EVERYTHING!!!” one person wrote.

“Well this stopped my in my tracks…. Rihanna….. What a huge accomplishment….. It gives me hope,” wrote another.
