John Singleton Reportedly In a Coma After Suffering ‘Major’ Stroke

Last week it was revealed that John Singleton suffered a stroke, and now he’s in a coma, according to TMZ. His mother Sheila Ward is also trying to become his temporary conservator.

The 51-year-old filmmaker checked himself into Los Angeles’ Cedars-Sinai Medical Center after a trip from Costa Rica left him experiencing weakness in his legs.

He later had a stroke on Wednesday (April 17) in his hospital room and was placed in the intensive care unit. His family eventually issued a statement but also asked for privacy.

At the time, the family also labeled the stroke as “mild,” but it’s now being called “major” by the celebrity gossip site.

Ward has asked a judge to be her son’s conservator, because he’s unable to take care of himself or his basic needs. Plus, Singleton had a number of business deals on the table before he checked himself in, including a settlement agreement that he was about to sign, which his mother will now handle.

“[Singleton] is unable to properly provide for his personal needs for physical health, food, clothing or shelter,” read legal documents.

Upon hearing the sad news, people flooded the legendary filmmaker’s Instagram page with prayers and words of encouragement.

“Praying for God’s healing power over your mind, body, and soul🙏 @johnsingleton,” wrote a fan.

“Prayers up! Stay strong!” wrote another. “You have made a huge impact in this world! Especially the black community! We love you 🙏🏾.”

“Pull through John!!! You always, always put L.A. on, the hood specifically. The game needs you!” a third person commented.

On March 6, before checking himself into the hospital, the “Boyz n the Hood” creator posted a photo of himself in Costa Rica and mentioned how much he loved it there.

“Goodbye Costa Rica… one of my new favorite places in the world…. so much to see so little time.”
