Report: Tyga Drops Multi-Million Dollar Lawsuit Against Birdman

Tyga reportedly has dropped his $10 million lawsuit against his former record label Cash Money and Young Money Entertainment, which would mean the case will officially be closed.

The 2018 suit surrounds royalties for his albums “Hotel California” and “Careless World” that Tyga claimed he was never paid.

The rapper said he tried to collect the money from label boss Birdman after ending their business relationship in 2016, but his requests fell on deaf ears. So he sued Birdman and the label for breach of contract as well as damages.

But not only did the Cash Money co-founder deny that he owed Tyga royalties, he said the label never recouped its advances and the rapper actually owes it money.

Cash Money then requested that the suit be thrown out and wanted Tyga to foot the bill for their legal expenses.

After that it appeared Birdman and Tyga were working on a settlement, but it didn’t happen, and on Oct. 1, 2018, Cash Money asked the courts for an extension to respond to the suit.

Tyga’s case evokes that of Lil Wayne, who sued Birdman and Cash Money in 2015 for $51 million.

Wayne said he was supposed to be paid $10 million for his album “Tha Carter V” and receive $8 million up front, then $2 million when he turned it in. But Wayne said that never happened and he only received $2 million.

He also claimed Birdman was holding back “Tha Carter V” and blasted him on Twitter.

“To all my fans, I want u to know that my album won’t and hasn’t been released bekuz Baby & Cash Money Rec. refuse to release it,” wrote Wayne in 2014. “I want off this label and nothing to do with these people but unfortunately it ain’t that easy.”

But a settlement was reached in 2018, and Wayne walked away with a reported eight-figure amount. He also released “Tha Carter V” in September of last year on Republic Universal.

Tyga hasn’t issued any statement about dropping the suit against Birdman or why he might have chosen to do so.
