Beyoncé Reportedly Inks a $60 Million Deal With Netflix

For those still buzzing about Beyoncé’s Netflix documentary “Homecoming” that dropped on April 17, they’ll have even more to talk about. That’s because additional projects from the iconic singer are coming to the streaming service.

Variety reports that Bey inked a deal with Netflix worth $60 million for three projects, and “Homecoming” is the first of those releases. The documentary shows the singer’s now historic performance at Coachella from April 18 of last year.

It also has behind-the-scenes footage and rehearsals of the show, plus Beyoncé talks about the challenges of getting back to the stage and fitting into her costume after she had twins.

Reportedly, $20 million of that deal was for “Homecoming,” which the Houston native wrote, directed and executive produced.

She also released a 40-track live album from the Coachella performance last week that includes two bonus cuts: a cover of Frankie Beverly and Maze’s “Before I Let Go,” which played during the closing credits of the documentary, as well as an updated version of “I Been On.” The original version of that cut was released on SoundCloud in 2013.

It’s also been reported that HBO was interested in housing the “Homecoming” project, since the network debuted her “Lemonade” visuals in 2016, as well as a show from her 2014 “On the Run Tour” with hubby Jay-Z. HBO also aired her 2013 documentary “Life is But a Dream.”

But in the end, Netflix offered more money, so they won out.

Meanwhile, Beyoncé’s ” Homecoming: The Live Album” grabbed the No. 7 position on the Billboard 200 charts and moved 38,000 album equivalent units, with 14,000 coming from traditional sales. And those numbers come after the album hasn’t been out a full week, so it’ll probably chart higher in the next Billboard 200 listing.

As for the reported new deal, Variety said an unnamed Netflix source denied that the singer’s three-project deal is worth $60 million.
