Wendy Williams spoke about her split from husband Kevin Hunter on Monday’s episode of “The Wendy Williams Show.”
Last week, the 54-year-old filed for divorce amid rumors that Hunter has cheated on her and been abusive for years. He’s further reported to have fathered a baby recently with alleged longtime mistress Sharina Hudson.
Hunter reportedly has been seen bringing groceries to Hudson’s house in New Jersey earlier this month.
Williams addressed the split during her Hot Topics segment and talked about living in a sober facility for addiction, which she revealed last month.
“Their business is our business. It’s crazy ’cause now my business is your business,” she stated. “It’s kind of funny. Turnabout’s a fair game, I get it.
I’m moving out of the sober house in just a few days, you know. It’ll be Wendy on her own.”
“I have to tell you, you know, I’ve been dealing with issues with addiction, alcoholism, and I have a whole new life that I planned for myself and my son,” Williams added. “Believe me you, when you lay in a room with no TV and four gray walls all day — this is my life in the sober house — it’s one of the best things that could have ever happened to me.”
The former radio host then suggested the sober house helped her make a decision about leaving Hunter. Plus, Williams explained why she wasn’t immediately forthcoming about the split.
“You wear a different mask when you’re out here,” she explained. “Everybody has things in their life that they’re not ready to share with the world. Addressing my sobriety, my addiction head-on has really helped me sort out every single compartment of my life.
“I have a commitment to me and my son to come out of here better, stronger and faster than ever,” Williams continued. “You’ll forget about my business any moment now, but I commit that the motto of this show will always be their business is our business.’”
The divorce papers reportedly state that Williams and Hunter’s marriage had been in trouble for six months prior to the talk show host filing. She’s also asked the courts to “establish the appropriate amount of child support” and split their assets “equitably.”
And to further confirm her split with Hunter, Williams said she had her eye on Cardi B‘s bodyguard and called herself a free woman.
“I was distracted by that chocolate gum drop over Cardi’s shoulder,” she said on Monday’s show. “Back it up now, I’m on the loose.”
Williams and Hunter tied the knot in 1997 and have an 18-year-old son named Kevin Jr., who’s away at college.
