‘Streets Is Done’: T.I. Uses a Jay-Z Line to Comment on How Nipsey Hussle Was Killed but George Zimmerman Lives

Reactions are still coming in about Nipsey Hussle, who was shot and killed on Sunday outside his store The Marathon Clothing in Los Angeles.

T.I. has shared several posts about the killing since the incident, and on Monday he  borrowed a Jay-Z line to express his confusion over it. “Y’all killed Nipsey and let Zimmerman live,” he wrote. “Streets is done.”

Both T.I. and Jay-Z referenced George Zimmerman with the line, the man who shot and killed a 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in 2012. The shooting took place in Sanford, Fla., and Zimmerman was charged with second-degree murder but was eventually acquitted.

Jay-Z first came up with the lyric on Drake‘s song “Talk Up,” off the Canadian rapper’s 2018 “Scorpion” album, and he did it to address the Florida rapper XXXTentacion being gunned down in that same year.

“If Alpo didn’t snitch, n—as’ll be like Young / I got your president tweetin’ / I won’t even meet with him / Y’all killed X, let Zimmerman live, streets is done,” rapped Jay.

People had plenty to say about the line when the song was released, as they did about T.I.’s post.

“The problem is we as black ppl is n to much competition with each other instead of helping one another we rather tear each other down than get mad we other race do us the same way we do each other,” someone wrote. “If black ppl STAND TOGETHER WE WILL BE UNSTOPPABLE WE TO 💪 💪 ..RIP NIPSEY 🙏🙏🙏.”

“I’m not a violent person, but I swear before God that this exact thought came to me when I heard the news,” someone else wrote.

Others, meanwhile, explained why “the streets” haven’t dealt with Zimmerman.

“It ain’t like we can catch dude he ain’t popping up no where near a hood,” one person wrote.

LAPD has identified a man named Eric Holder as a suspect in Hussle’s slaying, and he’s still at large.
