Eva Marcille Hits Back at Criticism Over Spending $1K on Each Meal: ‘It’s Per Person, Not Per Plate’

Sunday’s episode of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” saw Eva Marcille finally walk down the aisle with husband Michael Sterling, but some were baffled by how much the event cost — especially with the amount spent on each guest.

As they headed to the nuptials, Kandi Burruss and husband Todd Tucker hoped that since Marcille “said each person cost a $1,000” that the food would be up to par. However, cutting to a confessional scene, Burruss went from saying it was $1,000 per person to a grand per plate and back again.

“Lord! Child, for $1,000 a plate, honey! I had lions, I had flowers galore, I had BBD performing at my reception, honey! I had all kinda stuff happening for less than $1,000  a person,” she said.

On Twitter, others sounded off on the heavy spending, too.

“Mike just lost a campaign and Eva is….? But they were paying $1000 a plate. #RHOA.”

“$1000 a plate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! #RHOA Eva Gurl 🥴”

“B—-. 1000 USD per plate? eva got all that? #rhoa.”

It’s not clear whether it was Burruss’ on-air comment or the flood of critical tweets that came March 17 during the episode that made Marcille feel she had to respond. Either way, respond she did.

“Let’s be very clear: I paid for my own wedding. There were no loans. Nothing was done on barter,” Marcille begins, perhaps taking a dig at an issue playing out next Sunday where Marlo Hampton claimed Marcille is facing some financial trouble.

“I don’t know about the rest of you guys but if you’ve ever planned a wedding it’s per person, not per plate,” she continues. “So when it comes to floral, decor, when it comes to chairs — I didn’t have plastic chairs — when it comes to tables, when it comes to the champagne you sip from the moment you walked into the door to the moment you left, from valet, to security to lighting to everything. I mean, I had musicians around the clock. Let’s be clear.

“So, when I say it was $1,000 a head, I mean it was $1,000 a head, not $1,000 a plate,” she concludes. “Get your life together. And how about we start minding business that we invest in. How about that for starters? Have a good one!”

In total, Marcille’s lavish ceremony cost more than $200,000 according to the Daily Mail. The star also sobbed over her nuptials going over budget on “RHOA.”

In response to Marcille’s video, many fans said the model didn’t need to explain a thing to anyone.

“Eva Sterling enjoy your life forget the naysayers.”

“🤔 What’s understood doesn’t need to be explained🤷”

“Eva, let them ppl talk. You good!”
