Russell Wilson Makes Hearts Swell When Describing Life as a Stepdad to Ciara’s Son Future

Russell Wilson wasted no time welcoming wife Ciara’s young son into his life even before the pair got married in 2016. The NFL star has continued being a proud stepdad to Future Zahir Wilburn and he’s now explaining how he’s embraced the role four years on.

Wilson, who shares a daughter named Princess Sienna Wilson with his singer wife, discussed his family life with BuzzFeed’s daily morning show “AM2DM” Thursday. There he provided some tips on making a blended family work.

“I think the best thing is love,” begins the star, who first started seeing Ciara in 2015. “In terms of tips, I mean, you know being there for your kids, you know, tucking them down, putting them to bed, going to as many things as you can.”

The Seattle Seahawks quarterback then discussed how being a stepdad has made him learn what love truly is.

“And I think ultimately, you know the thing that I’ve learned the most — and I think this is real—  the thing that I’ve learned the most is that being a stepdad and then also having our little daughter as well, [but] being a stepdad, you really find out what love’s like,” he says. “It’s interesting. It’s easy to love somebody that’s blood and everything else, but when you can love somebody just like it’s your own child and everything else, that’s what real love’s like.”

Wilson explained that it was “the little things of life” that made him come to that realization, like seeing young Future, whose father is rapper Future, walk for the first time, which Wilson called “a blessing.” Another example came when the NFL star witnessed his stepson’s little league game where he had his first-at-bat home run.

“Now he’s practicing football, everything else,” he says. “So it’s just those moments —  take him to school — those things like that.”

Wilson has documented some of the sports-related bonding time he shares with little Future on his and Ciara’s Instagram page, too.

After one his winning game against the Carolina Panthers in November, the QB had a little race with Future Zahir running down the end zone where the youngster managed to beat the pro athlete.

But it was his recent comments about embracing his stepkid that had viewers admiring him.

“You are amazing and I truly admire and love you and Ciara and your beautiful family.”

“A real man.”

“Precious.”
