Nene Leakes Reacts to Friend Peter Thomas’ Miami Arrest as Ex-‘RHOA’ Star Gears Up to ‘Prove His Innocence’

News of former Bravolebrity Peter Thomas being arrested last week broke over the weekend, and his pal Nene Leakes played as if she didn’t hear about it when she was asked about it Sunday.

Leakes appeared on “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen” March 3 and was asked to address Thomas’ arrest in Miami on Friday. He was taken into custody at Miami International Airport March 1 on a warrant stemming from charges of writing bogus checks in Louisiana.

“You know I been out of the country, so I don’t get the news, honey,” Leakes saaid as she turnd in her chair away from host Andy Cohen.

However, Cohen told “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” star she was simply in Canada and not so far away that news of Thomas’ arrest couldn’t have possibly reached her.

“I was in Canada where I don’t catch the news,” Leakes said while Cohen made his point before she broke into laughter. “Now that you are telling me, my reaction is: ‘Wow! Amazing!'”

On a more serious note, Leakes acknowledged she saw Cynthia Bailey’s ex-husband in Miami over New Year’s when she did an event for the Charlotte, North Carolina-based businessman.

“I love Peter, yes. I love Peter,” she says.

Meanwhile, no bond has been set for the Bar One and Sports One owner, but he said in an official statement he will be “acquitted from any wrongdoing,” according to The Associated Press.

As for fans’ responses to Thomas’ arrest, they claimed to have begged him as a scammer from the start.

“Not Surprised about him…He is a con looking to spend others money.”

“I knew Peter was a fraud!! That man is shady AF!!!”

While Thomas’ arrest may come as a surprise to some, a glimpse of his rap sheet may explain why it shouldn’t be a shock.

In 2008, two years before wedding Bailey, Straight from the A reported Thomas was arrested for simple battery. After posting $1,000 bond, he was released the same day. Charges in the case were later dropped, too.

The next year, Thomas was hit with the same charge along with battery with visible harm. He was accused of assaulting a woman who said he pushed her. Thomas maintained she had slipped. At a bench trial in 2011, by which time he and Bailey had been married for more than a year, he was found not guilty.
