Cardi B won praise from many for her politically driven video where she blasted the government shutdown, but Tomi Lahren was not one of those people. And when she dissed the rapper for her stance, the “Money” performer swiftly checked her.
Cardi went viral Jan. 16 when she publicly disclosed her issue with Donald Trump’s ongoing government shutdown, which is tied to the border wall he wants to be constructed between the U.S. and Mexico.
“Now I know a lot of y’all don’t care because y’all don’t work for the government or y’all probably don’t even have a job but this s— is really f— serious, bro. This s— is crazy,” she said in her Instagram video. “Our country is in a hellhole right now all for a f—ing wall and we really need to take this serious.
“I feel like we need to take some action. I don’t know what type of action, b—-, ’cause this is not what I do, but b—- I’m scared,” she went on. “This is crazy and I really feel bad for these people who need to go to f—ing work to not get motherf—ing paid.”
That night, Lahren tweeted sarcastically that Cardi is the newest “genius” to back the Democratic agenda. Congressional Democrats have refused to give in to Trump’s insistence that any legislation to reopen government must include $5.7 billion in border wall funding.
“Looks like @iamcardib is the latest genius political mind to endorse the Democrats. HA! Keep it up, guys! #MAGA2020,” Lahren said.
By Sunday, Jan. 20, Cardi replied, tweeting, “Leave me alone I will dog walk you.”
That wasn’t the end of the feud, either. Lahren replied, “I’m sure you would. Still doesn’t make your political rambling any less moronic. #BuildthatWall.”
Yet Cardi didn’t stop there. She fired back, “You’re so blinded with racism that you don’t even realize the decisions the president you root for is destroying the country you claim to love so much .You are a perfect example on no matter how educated or smart you think you are you still a SHEEP!”
Many have been backing up Cardi as a result, including celebrities like comedian Amanda Seales and newly-elected congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
“I truly cannot stand this muddascunt @tomilahren. Make sure u have that same energy if u r ever graced with seeing @iamcardib in person or blessed to have a conversation with me,” the “Insecure” actress said.
“Why do people think they can mess with Bronx women without getting roasted?” the congresswoman wrote. “They act as though our borough hasn’t been perfecting the clapback game since the Sugarhill Gang y’all just found it on Twitter.”
