Peter Thomas anticipated the backlash he’d receive but made the comment anyway.
On Friday, Jan. 11, “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” member posted an Instagram video and gave his opinion on darker-skinned Black women who wear blond hair.

“I’m going to say some sh–, and I’m probably going to get a lot of flak for it,” Peter began. “I just drove by and saw something I got to comment on. I love Black women, but I also love Black women to wear their natural hair.”
Peter then went on to explain that he doesn’t mind if Black women straighten their hair or add a weave, he just hates when darker-skinned women go blond.
“Everything is not for everybody,” he said. “I don’t like to see people darker than me, a woman, wearing blond hair or honey-blond hair, and it’s not even done right. It’s just crazy, ’cause it looks like you’re wearing a f—ed up hat.”
He also said darker-skinned women who sport that particular hair color are being laughed at in public without realizing it. The responses to Peter’s comments came quickly and plenty of folks were offended.
“I’m all for having autonomy but Peter did we really need another post telling us Black women what we shouldn’t be doing when we are just about accepting ourselves in a world that loves to degrade us?” someone shot back.
“And why does he think 99% of people GAF about his opinion?” someone else commented. “We already know how he treats women.”
At the same time, there were plenty of people, both men and women, who agreed with the reality star.
“I say this Ish all the time,” one person wrote. “Women of color need to start loving and embracing their natural hair.”
Then on Sunday, Jan. 13, Peter said he was sorry for his words and realized his error after speaking to some women he thinks highly of.
“All my sisters out there light my ass up,” said Peter about the backlash he received. “I talked to a couple of them I respect, and they broke in down to me. I was wrong. I should use my platform to uplift, to empower, to celebrate my Black women. Not to pick apart. Not to tear down. My words were offensive to so many people I respect.”
