Not long after Toni Braxton’s ex-husband responded to her negative remarks about having to pay him alimony, the famous star’s ex got glowing support from her former brother-in-law.
Braxton said on “Red Table Talk” last week that she was angry about having to pay Mint Condition singer Keri Lewis in their 2013 divorce.
“Yes. I had to pay alimony,” the star disclosed. “I was one of those girls … I was very, very angry about that. But it was because we had an existing prenup and post-nup. I wanted to renege. I’m going to be honest … I went through this whole phase, ‘Ooh men are the new b—-es.’ That’s how I felt.”
Lewis posted a lengthy Instagram message on Monday, Dec. 3 explaining he was never interested in getting a payout from his famous ex.
“To give insight to the alimony payments, Toni’s attorney’s suggested she have a prenuptial agreement put in place prior to our wedding, and they drafted one as they saw fit,” he said. “Because of my love for her and being optimistic of marriage lasting forever, I didn’t feel the need to have an attorney, as I wasn’t going to contest anything in the prenup. … Toni mentioned to me that the payments set in the prenup would start being deposited into my account. I received alimony for around three years between 2012 and 2014.”
His letter evoked a response from Andre Carter, who was married to Toni’s sister, Towanda Braxton for 12 years until 2017.
“Keri…brother I understand completely! My divorce with Towanda was almost the same exact but on a much smaller scale,” he said in since-deleted comments. “The same as you, I did not have an attorney in my divorce. But there was no prenuptial signed. I asked for nothing, absolutely nothing during the proceedings, even the judge questioned me directly about my decision not to ask for anything.
“But as everyone has seen on the television show, I was portrayed as the one who attempted to take everything from Towanda,” he added. “That never happened! But that’s reality TV…protect the brand not the brainless. And I was damn sure brainless in believing those TV executive’s lies!!
