After struggling with fertility issues, Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade recently welcomed a baby girl via a surrogate they kept under wraps until just last week. And a week after their daughter was born, the couple unveiled her name Thursday, Nov. 15.
“#TBT Goes back to that one night in China when I decided to get my daughters name tattooed on me. Kaavia James Union Wade! #paternityleave,” Wade captioned his Instagram post where he revealed he got baby Kaavia’s name tattooed on his shoulders. It’s believed to be his first tat ever.
Wade was in the Asian country for a marketing tour in July when he made a pit stop to get a permanent dedication to his daughter inked on him, according to the “Today Show.”
Several fans shared their opinion’s on the baby’s moniker.
“Thank God she has a normal name 😩😍”
“Cool. James is my middle name.”
“Kaavia? Whewww Chile the ghetto😂.”
“Looove her name!”
“What is the James for Bron?”
“Why James?”
The Miami Heat guard’s wife chimed in under his comments section, thanking the likes of Portland Trail Blazers star C. J. McCollum and Wade’s teammate Udonis Haslem “for keeping this tat session a secret for so long!”
She also answered a fan’s burning question about the meaning behind Kaavia’s name.
“@jaaha_gaming great question. We wanted my family represented in her name. My godfather is my Uncle James Glass. She is named after him.. and then Union…that’s… ya know…me.”
Wade is set to get back on the road after his paternity leave is up, and so he’s soaking up the time to bond with his first daughter, who joins big brothers Zaire, Zion and Xavier from Wade’s prior relationships and her cousin, Dahveon Morris, Wade’s nephew.
“With my daughter coming a couple weeks early, she’s a little tiny right now, so we’re making sure health-wise that she’s OK,” the basketball star told The Associated Press Sunday, Nov. 11. “And for me, once I leave and go back to the season, not really being able to be with me everywhere I go, this time right now, this bonding moment with my daughter is the most important thing in my life at this time.”
