“The View’s” Meghan McCain nailed progressive news site Raw Story to the wall Tuesday over its false portrayal of how she handled her father’s cancer diagnosis and death after the site claimed she turned to alcohol to deal with the pain.
McCain, 33, returned to the talk show on Monday after a month-long hiatus following the death of her father, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) The senator, hailed as Vietnam war hero, died in late August at the age of 81 after a battle with a rare form of brain cancer.

The Raw Story headline in question recapped McCain’s first day back at “The View,” reading, “The View’s Meghan McCain Tearfully Opens Up About Drinking Through Her Dad’s Cancer.”
On Monday, McCain thanked each of her co-hosts for their support as she took time off to mourn the passing of her father. She detailed the difficult time, recalling how she met up with co-host and best friend Abby Huntsman and “got wasted” after her father was first diagnosed with glioblastoma.
Huntsman, who was pregnant at the time, did not drink.
“She watched me down Jack Daniels after Jack Daniels after Jack Daniels and then I threw up and her sister held my hair back,” McCain said.
The conservative co-host addressed the headline Tuesday, slamming the outlet for its false narrative.
“I had a rough day coming back to the show yesterday,” McCain said. “It’s been hard, everybody knows that.”
She continued, “And there was a headline that said, ‘The View’s Meghan McCain Tearfully Opens Up About Drinking Through Her Dad’s Cancer.”
“First of all, screw you!” McCain said. “I did not drink through my father’s cancer!”
Co-host Whoopi Goldberg jumped to her defense, recalling how difficult it was to come to grips with the deaths her own family members.
“Unless you’ve been there, and I was high through my brother’s death and I was high through my mother’s death,” said Goldberg. ” And you know why? Because sometimes it’s hard to put one foot in front of the other and until you’ve been there, shut up.”
McCain chimed in, “I woke up at 5:00 in the morning, took my dad to radiation and chemo treatments … how dare you say that I am somehow an alcoholic or imply that? And by the way, even if I was, I would be talking about it on the talk show I co-host.”
She proceeded to slam the publication for insinuating she has a drinking problem and shaming her for “drinking Jack Daniels.”
