Azealia Banks got into a heated exchange with the pop singer Lana Del Rey.
It started last week, when Del Rey criticized Kanye West for supporting Donald Trump. Banks took offense to the singer’s words and accused her of contriving her anger to look politically aware. Banks also called the New York-based singer a hypocrite for working with artists who’ve been accused of inappropriate behavior.
“Trump becoming our president was a loss for our country, but your support of him is a loss for the culture,” wrote Del Rey about West. “I can only assume you relate to his personality on some level. Delusions of grandeur, extreme issues with narcissism, none of which would be a talking point if we weren’t speaking about the man leading our country.”
“To me this just looks like the typical white woman using a weakened target to pretend to be an ally,” Banks shot back. “Especially because you know that a white woman versus a Black male will result in an immediate victory for the white woman due to societal circumstances. You wouldn’t dare challenge a Black woman on her opinion, because you don’t have that (much of a) social prejudice in place between.”
It took Del Rey a little over a week to respond, but she invited the Harlem rapper to a fight.
“You know the addy,” tweeted Del Rey. “Pull up anytime. Say it to my face, but if I were you I wouldn’t … I won’t not f–k you the f–k up. Period … Banks, you could’ve been the greatest female rapper alive but you blew it. Don’t take it out on the only person who had your back.”
The rapper didn’t respond to the fight invitation, she chose to insult the singer’s looks instead. She also accused her of getting botched up plastic surgery.
“Let’s talk about arm workouts today,” wrote Banks underneath a photo of Del Rey. “Example: This is an example of an aging white woman who got work done on her face and none done on her body, where she needed it most. Let’s walk her through some upper arm workout.”
“First, we need her to call the surgeon who did her pointy Michael Jackson nose and ask for some kybella for those chicken patties,” she added. “Next we need her to head over to Instagram and invest in some @FlatTummyCo lollipops and a $20 waist trainer.”
“Never get plastic surgery on your face without consideration for how it fits with your body,” Banks continued. “A 27 year old face means nothing when you’ve got a 60 year old body.”
From there, Banks called Del Rey a “cokehead,” and that’s when she responded.
“I’ll send you my surgeon’s number and a good psychiatrist I know in LA,” tweeted Del Rey. “Your psych meds aren’t working.”
Banks hasn’t responded to that last message yet, since she seems to be pretty busy at the moment. Earlier this week, the rapper announced that Kanye West called her and she’s heading to Chicago.
