Oklahoma Students Commended for Turning In Wad of Cash Found on Playground

An act of kindness goes a long way and three Belle Isle Middle School students received recognition for doing just that.

Keenan Estell, Damareay Tomlin and Jabaree Williamson are being praised for their good deeds after finding $300 on a playground and turning it over to their principal’s office.

“Honesty pays off,” said a Belle Isle teacher.

The boys were playing basketball near school campus on Sept. 11 when they noticed a stack of cash beneath an orange juice carton, KOCO reported. The three middle school students decided to hand over the money to the school principal.

“It feels good because you did the right thing,” Damareay told the news station.

Belle Isle Middle School Principal Lynn Kellert thought the students were joking until a nearby resident called the school the following day. The man said he dropped some cash while walking his dog on the playground.

“He was just very surprised that his money was found and that these boys did this,” said Kellert.

The boys have been immensely praised by their teachers and by the Oklahoma city community for their good character. One of the students, Jabaree said the attention is a little overwhelming.

“It’s strange. … because I don’t know what to say sometimes,” he said.

The owner of the money decided to award each of the three seventh graders with a $25 Amazon gift card for their kind deed.
