Nigerian Singer Davido Calls on Americans to ‘Come to Africa’ After Winning BET Award

Nigerian singer and record producer Davido scored his second BET International Act Award this Sunday and used the honor to urge Americans to visit his continent.

The “If” singer was up against several acts including his “Check on You” collaborator rapper Cassper Nyovest of South Africa, French singer Dadju, UK rapper Stormzy and fellow Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage among others.

When Davido hit the stage to accept his trophy, the 25-year-old paid homage to the late son of Afropop star D’banj, who drowned over the weekend. Davido then applauded not only Nigeran culture but African culture as a whole.

“My continent has been so blessed to influence other cultures. The Migos just left two years ago. I remember when they came. That was amazing,” he says. “I’m telling you guys, y’all come to Africa, eat the food, wear the clothes.

“Let’s collaborate with everybody. Let’s collaborate, man” he added, noting his new album drops this year and shouting out J. Cole for a future collab and Quavo, with whom he was caught meeting up with in May.

Many fans were just as hype about Davido’s win as the animated singer was to grace the BET stage.
