A Tunisian pilot jumped to a flight attendant’s defense after an agitated passenger hurled an outwardly racist insult at her.
Ghofrane Binous, a flight attendant for Tunisian airline Tunisair, found herself in the middle of a squabble between two passengers while working a flight from Istanbul, Turkey to the Tunisian capital of Tunis earlier this month. On Facebook, Binous wrote that the argument ensued because there wasn’t enough storage space for one of the traveler’s bags.
When she walked over and tried to settle the dispute, one of the passengers directed their anger at her, shouting, “I don’t need your help. The last thing I need is a black b—h of an air hostess.”
“In the face of her contemptuous attitude, I began to cry,” Binous wrote.

The flier’s nasty words didn’t sit well with Pilot Mounir Ajlani, who intervened and kicked the rude passenger off of the flight. Binous said her fellow crew members also rushed to her defense and showered her with support.
“My colleagues came spontaneously to express their solidarity, as well as the passengers, almost all Tunisians like the woman who insulted me, who all protested what she had told me,” she wrote. “The Commander, informed of what had happened, immediately demanded that this passenger descend from the plane and expressed his support.”
Binous went on to thank everyone who defended her.
“So I wanted to thank the commander Mr. Ajlani Mounir our cabin chief Kammoun Wacef, co-pilot Zied Yaich and all my colleagues from the crew,” she said.
