A South Carolina man may face up to 10 years in prison after he plotted to murder his Black neighbor by reaching out to a white supremacist group.

Brandon Lecroy, 25, of Greenwood County has been indicted on charges of solicitation to commit a violent crime and “use of interstate commerce facilities in the commission of murder for hire”, Post and Courier reported.

The suspect apparently wanted his Black neighbor killed and the FBI shortly began investigating Lecroy once a private source said the man tried to enlist a white supremacist to commit murder for hire, U.S. Attorney’s Office announced on Tuesday.

According to court documents Lecroy tried to “to seek assistance with the murder of his African-American neighbor” when contacting the extremist group and once authorities were tipped off, an undercover agent spoke with the suspect on March 20, who ordered a hit out on his neighbor.

“$500 and he’s a ghost,” Lecroy told the agent during their conversation, the criminal complaint reported. He also asked the authority to place a “flaming cross” in his front yard and “hang his neighbor from a tree.”

Prior to meeting the agent face-to-face, Lecroy said a 9 mm “ghost gun” with two magazines was needed to remain untraceable and suggested that “he has more jobs for him [the agent] in the future” the complaint stated. He then met with the undercover official on April 9, put down a $100 cash advancement “with acknowledgment that this payment was for the murder of his neighbor” and was arrested that same day.

Lecroy has been ordered to undergo a psychiatric examination and is being held at a federal prison hospital, the news source reported. If he’s found guilty, he could face up to 10 years in prison and a fine of $250,000.
